Concept:
Working with Better Place the aim was to improve the land on Folkestone Street in Bradford with the aim to improve the lifestyle for 0-4 year olds. The space has a meandering path along it, with playful and artistic features along the way to encourage people to walk between the Attock Park area and Myra Shay area with
‘Play on the Way’ features.

The project aimed to help boost community pride in the area, working with local residents to increase the possibility that the street will be looked after long into the future.

The aesthetic was enhanced with minimal construction using bulb planting and art installations, giving it a splash of colour and texture, making it a brighter and more exciting place to be.

Small play sculptures were added, to encourage local children to play outside more and to have fun in the space immediately outside the place that they live.

Local artist Marcella Livingstone developed a new polypropylene knitted fabric that was ideal for a tree dressing project. This engaged residents in the choosing of the colour schemes using a tough and resilient surface designed for extreme weather conditions, The workshops allowed Marcella to design specifically to suit the neighbourhood architecture and materials, the trees and the community culture.
