Concept:
The play area was designed following consultations with local young people and was based around natural and adventurous play. The main focus of the play area is a created rock headland which was formed perpendicular to an existing embankment, castle fort, tube slide, climbing wall, tree trunk seats and jungle climbing frame. Not a traditional play space, this was designed following RoSPA guidelines for acceptable risk and challenges young
people to scramble and climb.
North Yorkshire County Council received £1.14 million of Playbuilder funding from the Department of Children, Schools and Families to create 22 innovative and adventurous play spaces.
Drainage and goal posts were also installed on the field, which is popular for ball games.
