Concept:
The objectives of this project were to create a stunning entrance feature, improving the aesthetic appearance of the street-scape and to improve the landscape of the area. The project complements two other schemes, Wood Green and Bluebell Mews delivered for Wakefield & District Housing.
The central feature of the scheme is a stainless steel sculpture designed by Michael Johnson. It is designed to represent Whitwood’s history with scenes depicting its past and industry. Boundary walls, new seating, paving and plants complete the scheme.
The project was the first of three schemes delivered for Wakefield and District Housing as a result of priorities identified by the Whitwood ‘Blueprint’ an estate-wide consultation process which Groundwork developed and delivered.
