Concept

As part of a wider Groundwork Yorkshire project, the Landscape Architect Team have been working with Hull’s Communities Team on a large environmental project at Hornsea Mere. The Hornsea Mere Nature Restoration Project is a one-year development project, funded by UK Government through the Water Restoration Fund. The project aims to reduce diffuse water pollution which is affecting the Mere through a community awareness-raising programme and by encouraging landowners within the catchment area to improve and implement nature-based solutions which will help to filter run-off prior to it entering this important SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) habitat.

The landscape team held a number of engagement sessions to support landowners in assessing existing landscape features which they have in place and co-designing relevant nature-based solutions which could further improve their land and positively impact on Hornsea Mere. The sessions were followed up with a selection of site visits and the creation of a series of outline designs, which can be used as examples throughout the catchment. These designs will inform future funding applications for the next stage of the project.
